PROKERA® Corneal Bandages
PROKERA® biologic corneal bandages are mentioned in many procedures performed at Oklahoma Medical Eye Group. What are they?
PROKERA® is an amniotic membrane that has natural anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring properties. It is the only FDA cleared therapeutic device used by eye care practitioners to provide quick symptom relief and reduce inflammation associated with ocular surface disease. It helps restore your cornea and return your eye to a normal, healthy state.
PROKERA® amniotic membranes are used to help heal the surface of the cornea that is damaged due to severe dryness, corneal disease or corneal surgery. Conditions such as:
- moderate to severe dry eye disease
- recurrent corneal erosions
- filamentary keratitis
- persistent epithelial defects
- neurotrophic corneas
- corneal ulcers
- post op healing when the epithelium is removed
These amniotic membranes help reduce inflammation, prevents scarring and promote healing of the cornea. PROKERA® biologic corneal bandage devices are safe and effective and unlike steroid drops, they have no risk of intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes or delayed healing. PROKERA® products can be inserted in the doctor’s office or may be inserted in a surgical or hospital setting in conjunction with other procedures.
PROKERA® products reduce inflammation, scarring and promote healing of the ocular surface. They are used to manage disease, trauma, or post-operative care. Healing of the ocular surface is of paramount concern because it directly affects one’s comfort and appearance, and most importantly their vision.
